Rajasthan Silver Hindu Goddess Tiger Eye Necklace Earrings Set

This necklace features a large round Durga amulet from Rajasthan, India in 925 hallmark silver and Tiger Eye gemstone beads along with Berber silver beads from Africa. (The Durga pendant is contemporary silver and not a vintage piece.)

Tiger Eye (or Tiger’s Eye more specifically) is known to be an ancient talisman. Mysterious and powerful, revered and feared, an “all-seeing, all-knowing eye,” thought to grant the wearer a similar ability. Linked to the tiger, (the king of beasts and Maa Durga's vaahan or vehicle), this stone portrays courage, integrity and the righteous use of power.

A fun fact: It was chosen by the Egyptians for the eyes in their deity statues to express divine vision, and was believed to provide the protection of the sun and earth combined, of Ra, the Sun God and Geb, the God of the growing land. Roman soldiers carried it to deflect weapons and to be brave in battle. It has been highly regarded throughout history as a stone of prosperity and good fortune, protecting one’s resources and reflecting back malice or threats from others.

The silver amulet features Goddess Shakti in her Durga form, one of her ten forms that are revered during Durga Pooja or Navratras. In Indian mythology it is believed that Durga was born when Brahma, Vishnu and Shiv, the trinity of supreme divinity in Hinduism, were troubled by the atrocities of the demon Mahishasura and even their combined powers could do nothing to stop him. It was at this crucial point that Durga is said to have been born from the anger and helplessness of these three Gods. She is hence believed to be the supreme power or Shakti.

The bicone shaped silver beads are vintage handmade African Berber beads. The other silver beads interspersed through the length of the necklace are silver plated heishi disc beads.

The earrings are Sterling Silver Tiger Eye gemstone earrings from Jaipur, India.

A Bali silver hook clasp completes the necklace. I added the "Brave" charm in honor of Maa Durga and with a prayer that this provides strength to the wearer and serves as a reminder of the "Brave" hidden within her. (The charm is a silver plated lead free, nickel free alloy.)

The necklace measures approx. 18 inches from end to end. The pendant is around 2.5 inches in diameter.
